Thinking of You in Black and White

Happy Halloween! I don't have a spooky card to share with you today, but I do have one that is a little more somber. I've been playing with Dreamweaver Embossing Paste and stencils like this Summer Meadow stencil by Sheena from Crafter's Companion. I think it really pops against the Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock

I especially like how the birds came out. Don't they sort of remind you of a cameo? The tree could have used a little more embossing paste, but I was trying to get a smooth surface and must have scraped too much away. Nothing that a little practice won't fix!

Hope you all have a fantastic and safe Halloween!

A Magical Christmas + Winners!

Good morning, crafty friends! How are you all doing this week? Getting ready for tomorrow's trick or treating? I was up late last night painting some finishing touches on my kids indian costumes for school tomorrow, but I did manage to also squeeze out another Christmas card for the Caring Hearts Card Drive benefitting the elderly in nursing homes.

This time I used the new Magical Star stamp set from the Moonbeam Meadow line at Crafter's Companion. Isn't it cute? Polar bears are my favorite, so this adorable set is definitely going to get some use from me!

To bring this scene to life, I colored it with my Spectrum Noirs in shades BG1, BG2, DR3, DR6, DR7, DG3, DG4, LG2, LG3, LY1, LY3, GT1, and GT2. I added some May Arts ribbon and a sprinkle of Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins to finish it off. Hope you like it!

Moving on, I've got a couple winners to announce! The winner of my Crafter's Companion Birthday Celebration Giveaway was SAMANTHA MANN! I've already contacted Samantha to get her info to get that stamp set out to her.

The winner of my Create A Smile Video Hop Giveaway is THORDIS! Thordis, I will be contacting you shortly for your mailing info and pass that along to Christine at Create A Smile to get you your free stamp set.

Thanks to everyone who entered both giveaways! The comments you guys left were awesome and totally made my day.

Greetings Of The Season

Hi friends! Today I was doing a little blog hopping and ended up on the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge blog. It's been a little while since I've inked up any of my Paper Smooches stamps, so I decided to play along and give them a little love.

Since I'm fully committed to creating as many holiday cards as I can for the Caring Hearts Card Drive, I decided that this little penguin and birdy from Chilly Chums would be the lucky contestants. I colored them with my Spectrum Noirs and used a sentiment from Joyful Greetings to complete my card.

I hope you enjoy it! The challenge this week is Anything Goes, so it couldn't be easier to play along. :)

Also, this is the perfect time of year to play along with the Festive Friday Challenge. Their beautiful inspiration photo is where I drew my color palette of red, white, and black. Don't you just love an artfully wrapped package? Or two? Or three? Or ten?

Have an awesome weekend, everybody! Get crafty if you can!

Merry & Bright - 2014 Holiday Card Series #2

Good morning! Welcome to the second installment of my 2014 Holiday Card Series! The minute I received my Mama Elephant new release order in the mail this week, I knew that my very next card would have to feature one of these adorable Arctic Penguins! They're just so darn cute!

I decided to give him a Northern Lights background which I achieved by using Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, Dusty Concord, and Seedless Preserves. But if you google the Aurora Borealis, there are so many color options to choose from! I'm definitely going to keep playing and making more of these backgrounds for my new little friends. :)

Enjoy the video! Click on the YouTube icon in the bottom right corner to watch it there in HD. And please don't forget to leave me a comment, thumbs up my video, and subscribe if you haven't already. All those things mean so much to a YouTuber! It really helps us out!

I'll also be linking this up to the current Mama Elephant and Me Challenge: Anything Goes. There's still a few days left to play along if you haven't already!

2014 Holiday Card Series #1

Good evening, friends! I am super excited to announce that I began my 2014 Holiday Card Series on my YouTube channel today! To kick things off, I started out with my favorite new stamp set from Wplus9Winter Woodland, and inked up those cute critters using the rock and roll technique with some Memento Luxe inks.

I paired that with the gorgeous new Simple Stories Cozy Christmas 6x6 papers, as well as some polkadot vellum and American Crafts glitter paper.

All my cards will be going to the Caring Hearts Card Drive benefitting the elderly in nursing homes. I hope you'll consider participating. It's such a great cause. Enjoy the video and have an fantastic weekend!

By the way, this time of year is an awesome time to link up to the Festive Friday Challenge! Be sure to check them out!

Joy Glen

Hello, friends! Today marks the day when I begin my holiday card making in earnest, as the weather begins to turn and the leaves begin to fall. I know that time is ticking down to get those cards made for the Caring Hearts Card Drive that benefits the elderly in nursing homes, so I'll be switching into high gear from here on out. I highly recommend that you check out this wonderful cause hosted by Vera Yates and Jennifer McGuire. There's even loads of prizes donated by some of the most awesome companies in the industry! But the bottom line is, you have the opportunity to bring smiles to so many this holiday season. And that's really reason enough to get involved.

Today's card is going for a simple, elegant look with stand-out features. I used the brand-new Deer Stencil by Sheena Douglass, available in the Crafter's Companion store as of noon today. These new stencils are so versatile, this is only one part of the Deer Stencil -- and you could actually create a complete second scene with the same one. There are 10 new stencils in this line, so be sure to check them all out.

To create my scene, I used Dreamweaver Silver Embossing Paste to fill in my stencil and covered a scrap of white cardstock cut into a hill shape in Dreamweaver White Embossing Paste and coated it in chunky glitter while it was still wet. I think it just adds an extra layer of dimension and glitz to my card.

I really wanted a simple, understated sentiment, so I stamped "Joy" from the Mulberry Wood "Christmas Wishes" stamp set, which is one of my most favorite Crafter's Companion sets of all.

I hope you like it! And please consider making a few extra cards this year for The Caring Hearts Card Drive.

Oh Happy Day

Hi there! A friend of mine recently commissioned me to make a very special wedding card for someone who has been like a daughter to her. I thought this would be the perfect time to ink up my Mama Elephant Bountiful Blessings and Bloomsies stamp sets, since they play so nice together.

I inked all my sentiments and images up with Versamark and heat embossed them with Liquid Platinum Embossing Powder by Ranger. I also made sure to use some vellum for some of my elements to give it that ethereal, veil-like look, which I think always looks so nice on wedding cards.

I also made this card with the October Mama Elephant & Me Challenge : Anything Goes in mind. They made it so easy to play this month, you should definitely give it a try if you haven't already.

Have an awesome day!

Paper Teacup/Mug - Lawnscaping Challenge #91

Hey there! Welcome to Lawnscaping Challenge #91! I can't believe how close we are creeping toward our 100th Challenge! So exciting! But today's challenge is all about patterned paper.

So confession time... I am a patterned paper addict. I simply cannot resist an awesome 6x6 pad with fun, playful colors and prints. I love patterned paper so much that I can't even remember the last time I didn't use it on a project. So just incorporating patterned paper was WAY too easy for me. This is supposed to be a challenge, right? So I really wanted to make something extra-special.

These patterned paper teacups (mugs) ended up being exactly the kind of project I love, meaning:

1. looks fabulous
2. is super duper easy to make!

I used papers from the Lawn Fawn "Let's Polka" Collection Kit along with the Tag You're It dies and the Love You A Latte stamp set. And of course, I filmed a video so you can all see for yourselves just how easy these are to create. They would make awesome shower or party favors, teacher gifts, the possibilities are endless!

Click on the YouTube icon at the bottom right to watch there in HD and please don't forget to thumbs up, comment, and subscribe!

After watching, please head back on over to the Lawnscaping Challenge blog to check out the other amazing DT projects and to link up to the challenge.

Special thanks to Simon Says Stamp for generously donating a $25 gift certificate to our winner.

Happy World Cardmaking Day 2014

Hey everyone! HAPPY WORLD CARDMAKING DAY! Yahoo! I love this day because it's the one day that we crafters band together and create whether it be in a group, or via Skype, or even all by your lonesome -- except NOT. Because this is the one day that we put aside the dishes or the laundry and take time for ourselves, take time for others, because though the creative process is for us, the actual creative product is for someone else. To send it off and lift someone's spirits. To make them smile. Today is a day to celebrate! To celebrate who we are and what we do, and to remember why we do it.

So for today's project I inked up a brand-new stamp from Crafter's Companion called Just A Note from the just-released yesterday Moonbeam Meadow range. I stamped the sentiment from Mulberry Wood "Birthday Wishes" and colored it with my Spectrum Noirs in shades: TN1, TN2, TN3, CR4, CR7, DR3, DR6, CT2, CT4, IB1, IB2, CG3, CG4, and BT1.

I filmed a video tutorial just in case you wanted to check out the process. Click the YouTube icon at the bottom right to watch there in HD and don't forget to thumbs up and subscribe!

By the way, Crafter's Companion is having an awesome weekend sale!

Also, it's my cousin Ashley's birthday today, so I have to give her a shout out. Happy Birthday, Ashley! I love you!

Have an awesome World Cardmaking Day, everyone!

Heartfelt Wishes

Today's the long-awaited day of the Moonbeam Meadow release -- the sweetest little stamp range from Crafter's Companion. This line has six everyday images and six Christmas for a total of twelve stamp sets that are just as cute as can be!

I absolutely adore this Hugs and Kisses image with those adorable mice! I colored them with my Spectrum Noirs in shades TN1, TN2, TN3, TN4, PP1, BG1, BG2, BG4, GB1, GB2, GB3, GB7, GB9, BT2, BT4, BT5, CR6, CR7, CR8, CG3, and CG4.

The sentiment I die cut with the Die'sire Essentials "Just The Ticket" dies and adhered it to the side so the focus would stay on those sweet lovey dovey mice. I also added some die cut hearts and a little Wink of Stella, which sadly does not show up well in photos but adds a lovely touch in real life.

Please head on over to Crafter's Companion to check out the whole new Moonbeam Meadow line!
